traipsing the world & the wake we make

Through the years we have become increasingly mobile. Uprooting ourselves to parts unknown. Be it permanent, semi-permanent, or temporary.

The world has grown increasingly smaller as there are more of us to fill it, map it, conquer it.

What may have been strange and exotic in our parents' or ancestors' times, we can easily access now - even if only virtually or via the internet.

Born and raised in a tropical paradise, I watched as urbanization and western influences encroached upon and all but obliterated all things natural and local.

How often has comfort and commercialism paved paradise to put up the proverbial parking lot? Or ostentatious mega mall? Or over priced multinational resorts and hotels?

Palawan, our last bastion of paradise in the Philippines, has been listed these past three years as a prime destination by travel experts like Conde' Nast.

Already we can see how the place is being trashed by locals and tourists alike - all out to maximize the bang on their buck.

What's to save us from our natures so we can live honorably with Mother Nature?
