brain entrainment

If an item is note worthy enough to appear on Wikipedia and the Huffington Post it certainly adds to its popularity. Whether its validity can be vindicated by such may not always follow even as we are made aware.

However in the case of mind entrainment it seems that enough have jumped on the band wagon and tooted its horn enough to have it touted it as the latest cutting edge avenue for mindfulness and wellness.

Brainwave Entrainment, also referred to as brainwave synchronization and neural entrainment, refers to the capacity of the brain to naturally synchronize its brainwave frequencies with the rhythm of periodic external stimuli - most commonly auditory, visual, or tactile.

At the root of all our thoughts, emotions and behaviors is the communication between neurons within our brains. Brainwaves are produced by synchronized electrical pulses from neurons communicating with each other.

Entrainment is a principle of physics defined as the synchronization of two or more rhythmic cycles. The principles of entrainment appear in chemistry, neurology, biology, pharmacology, medicine, astronomy and nature.

As our brainwaves change according to what we are doing or thinking and how we are feeling about these actions or thoughts - brainwave entrainment is a way to reach into and lead the mind to states that may be difficult or inaccessible otherwise.

It is an old technique, applied by many wisdom traditions since ancient times and throughout the ages that is quickly gaining ground in practice and popularity. Not a surprise at all given the world's over crowding, increased mobility, and instant access to information.

Recent studies show how the human brain is being rewired by all the gadgets and technology we consume and are exposed to.

Whether they stimulate or calm, hinder or enhance, work for or against us - too many of them are already entraining our brainwaves. We need to be aware of each, to actively and consciously pick and choose which ones fit our needs the best or those that cold be detrimental too.

Brainwave entrainment has been around forever and may well be the wave of the future for humanity. Different strokes for different folks - pick wisely.
