for generations, sugar sweetened life
protected by preferential treaties
we are lulled and dulled
in opulent consumption
tiempo suerte, fateful season, fortunate
times
dust to dust
a land stuck in time
a people fixed and fixated
even when idols show clay feet
making hay, holding out, surviving
strife
