fruits of our labor

Labor Day in the US has shifted its focus toward consumerism and the end of summer rather than celebrating the dignity of work. Maybe because labor has often led to a demand for better work conditions and greater worker benefits.

Labor Day 2020

Labor Day was originally created to pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. Many of whom were indigent or immigrant working long ours under terrible conditions.

Most were too grateful to have the opportunity even if dangerous and demeaning, or barely able to keep them alive. Too many Americans have lost sight of this in the pursuit of comfort and convenience. #toobad #sosad

Immigrants — we get the job done!

Back in the Philippines life is not as cushy, even for those who can afford it, there are countless dangers to navigate. It is easier to cushion and distance ourselves from the pain and suffering with money to burn though there are some things that even a lot of money cannot solve, resolve or fix.

With the coming anniversary of the birth and death of Ferdinand Marcos, the longest running dictator and instigator of Martial Law, old wounds and current circumstances resurrect our memories.

Marcos Family — 1965 & 1986

A recent post blamed the Filipinos for allowing the US to let the Marcoses escape. Another blamed us for letting them back into the country. Who is to say what is right or not?

All I know is after decades of the Marcoses conjugal reign the fabric of our nation was so deeply shaken and shattered it took the people to rise up in protest to remove them from power.

What’s left of the Marcos Clan — still insatiable in their greedy grab for power.

Although most government officials, institutions, politicians, or business magnates were avidly vying to position themselves in the vacuum the Marcoses left behind, too few held the nation or its people in priority and even less were qualified to ran the country, much less undo all their damage.

Hindsight can be such a genius and yet because it is the lowest level of awareness, at the time we the people rose up in revolt we had very little truthful information to rely on.

bumbling bungled Philippine politics

Marching towards the gates of Malacanang Palace the night of the Marcoses US aided removal, we only had rumors and a lone guerilla radio station to bank on.

Years later we are still unable to pick up the pieces, connect the dots, or hold those responsible accountable for all the perpetuated atrocities of those times.

shameless & scandalous corruption

Having Rodrigo Duterte - an avowed Marcos lapdog and loose canon as the current president - is forcing us all to relive a nightmare we all hoped would never be repeated.

Once again the nation's troubles play large on the world stage, fully exposed. And the madness plays on as we watch in ever growing horror. As we have sown, so shall we reap.

the people's anthem

When and how will it end? Will it ever? Pity the masses whose lives are not spared.
