The decolonization of how gender and sex have been constructed by Western philosophy and forced upon cultures around the world is essential to the safety of our trans relatives.
When we talk about smashing the patriarchy, we are not doing so just for the lives of our "cis-ters"-- but for our trans siblings and other folks who are told by this oppressive system that they "deviate" from biology and culture. Gender non-conforming and queer individuals face stigma, discrimination and rejection, owing to their ambiguous gender expression. This needs to change. Folks should be able to express their preference without being subjected to discrimination, bias and judgement.
