As the [dis]United States of America gear up for Independence Day celebrations this weekend, we wonder what in the world we are offering as well wishers on this occasion.

What sentiments to express?

As confirmed cases of COVID-19 still rise, killing and debilitating too many. As people lose their livelihood and income with nationwide shut downs and a collapsed economy. As we take to the streets and online in protest against broken systems and corrupt leaders.

This summer of 2020 is not likely to pass happily or well.

of his famous speech, "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?"

Trump is a greed-gorged ego-centric president who serves himself and not the office or our nation. He is bleeding our country dry of what little there is left to salvage and take pride in. His foolish tactics only highlight our broken agreements and unjustifiable behavior.

For too long we have allowed the rape and pillage of people our politics and government are tasked to serve and protect. For our own personal gain and comfort we have dishonored the sacred and worshiped the profane.

Time to change all this now.
