Sunday in the City

For a native New Yorker "the city" can only mean our one and only New York City - the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps, bright lights - big city.

Yesterday NYC hosted two international parades - the Philippine Independence Day Parade and the Israel Day Parade.

what makes our heart sing

What is my vocal culture? What is this term exactly? How do we define what it means?

Simply put it is the music genre, style or art form one resonates with the most. The one that touches and inspires me. The one I can listen to all day everyday. The one that brings me joy and enlivens me.

Dayak Maiden, Borneo

Among the many different vocal styles, there are - sacred, secular, Baroque, Classical, Renaissance, Romantic, solo, choral, operatic, madrigal, jazz, pop, etc.

Popular music encompasses blues, jazz, country music, easy listening, hip hop, rock music, and several other genres. There may also be a subgenre within a subgenre such as vocalese and scat singing in jazz.

the ultimate inside job : happiness

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

If so then fake it til you make it just won't cut it when in essence we are our message.

redefine success based on the size of our heart instead of the size of our home~ Jay Shetty

Who and how we are in our lives nurtures us or we wither up and die missing out on fulfillment and joy. Putting our hearts on the line otherwise our lives are truly at risk.

appreciating our teachers

In the US, the National Education Association describes National Teacher Day  “as a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.”

National Teacher Appreciation Day, also known as National Teacher Day, is observed on the Tuesday of the first full week in May.  This year it takes place on May 8th and is part of Teacher Appreciation Week, which is the first full week in May of each year.

Born and raised in the East, the meaning and purpose of "teacher" in Western terms seems rather short sighted and too shallow.

proud immigrants

Today is Pay It Forward Day. As an immigrant I choose to celebrate our countless human stories.

If you haven't yet, you absolutely must watch the choreography gems of Keone and Mari Madrid.

They are a multi talented award winning couple - dancers and choreographers, teachers and creatives, husband and wife.

Just love this Eileen Fisher ad campaign they choreographed to the tune of  “Wildewoman” by Lucius

time construct

Time is real. Time is a concept. It is all relative.

Where do you stand in this debate?

The Persistence of Time by Salvador Dali 1931

How do you approach time?

What is time to us? How does time feel?  How is it measured?

spring yet to come

We are going through the motions of celebrating a spring that has yet to come.

Winter White over the Hudson River

Tired and weary of winter - the magic has gone out of the fluff and cold.

Even with the days growing longer - the chill is still too nippy in the air.

Warm yourselves up on some spectacular photos from a late Easter weekend post.

For #wonderwanderwomen Mother Nature had her April Fools Day fun on our behalf.
