“The deed is everything, the glory is naught.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Take Anna Sorokin for example, the woman who pretended to be a wealthy German heiress, conning members of New York high society out of more than $200,000.
She was eventually convicted in New York City of multiple counts of attempted larceny, theft, and fraud. Sorokin's story has been the subject of news and fiction - podcasts, TV, stage, and Netflix.

It is terrible how many folks like her we have all been exposed too - first hand or vicariously, on any variety of levels. As a Fil-Am my personal pet peeves are Donald Trump in the US and Bongbong Marcos in the Philippines.
These two fakers and pretenders aspire to live the fantasy of an extravagant lifestyle beyond their means or on the taxpayers' tabs. Hardly unique in understanding that superficial bogus glamour was key to acceptance in the circles they aspire to.
Would that these sorry excuses of males are found guilty on all counts they have been accused of. Instead they range free and roam clear however atrocious their crimes - flaunting their terrible behavior for all to gawk at. Vilified or admired, we give them more coverage and airtime than more relevant and valuable news.
Why?
Dodo Trump |
Sorokin while in detention seeks to help people who are detained by ICE but do not speak the English language or cannot afford an immigration lawyer. Whatever her motives, it is much better, admirable even - compared to the Trump and Marcos attempts to become the next president.
For the health of our nations, let us remember that actions not only speak louder than words - they outshine and even outlast the person performing the action. Judge them for what they have done and not by what they promise to do.
Bobo Marcos |
Of all the choices available why waste precious resources investing on a twice impeached buffoon or an entitled aging junior still living in the shade of his thieving dictator daddy? Both are desperate campaigning to build themselves up as today's hero for the next election.
We the people are more likely to disagree about who a hero is than about what specific action is heroic. For that reason, let us honor and celebrate heroic actions that can inspire us all to behave heroically.
Walk away - free and clear of any faker or pretender.
