another year, another birthday

My daughter Mahala is here in the US to celebrate my 62nd birthday with me. It is rare that we are around for each others' birthdays as we live apart most of the year.

At the Roman Gallery, Met Museum

This visit has been particularly packed full because she is only here for four weeks instead of her usual three months.

George Washington Bridge behind us.

On top of which we spent six days in Canada and another four in Georgia visiting cousins of ours. We are having so much fun but it is also maxing us out.

Up at eight or earlier each morning. Out on the streets by 10:00 a.m. We are usually out and about and do not return until close to midnight every day.

On Times Square

I was teasing her that we may just need a break to recuperate from this vacation. In the meantime, we are on the move so much our regular online posts have suffered and grown irregular.

Oh well, if that's the price for all our togetherness then we are happy to pay it. As we would not trade being together for anything else anyway.

Would that our school uniforms could have been so fine.

We started celebrating my birthday on July 4. With family members who had just returned from traveling too. It was a better cause to celebrate than the current dismal state of our nation.

Proudly claiming our Chinese heritage.

As long as the month lasts, our celebrations are still on going. July is definitely sizzling. The theme this year is celebrating our divinity.

Aptly applied on our Met Museum visits for the Heavenly Bodies exhibits at their main building and at the Cloisters. Today we just returned from a visit to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

Last year we celebrated my 61st with the launch of blatantly BHAKTI, a colorful logo Mahala and I collaborated on. I came up with the concept and she executed it to perfection.

At some point I had chosen another B adjective for this year. But for the life of us we could not remember what it is.

As I've said, if it is important enough it will come back to us. In the meantime, we are grateful for the hours and days we have had together this summer.

Maybe next year we will meet up for Mahala's birthday instead of mine. I can always return to my week of silence and seclusion for mine.

Who knows? It can always change. As we do.
