people power

Did the 1986 EDSA Revolution really happen? Given the state of current affairs in the Philippines, those of us who marched during those historic times, are flabbergasted and disgusted all these years later.

Conjugal Dictators - Imelda & Ferdinand Marcos

What did we take to the streets for? Risking life and limb? Fighting so hard - for what? To elect another Marcos pawn as our current president? Where is that fabulous people power when we need it?

An inept government led by a bumbling bully is made even more glaringly wrong in these difficult times that challenge even the best of the best.

black history month

As February draws to an end and Lenten Season is upon us, we celebrate with this gorgeous and beloved performance. Alvin Ailey’s Revelations fervently explores the places of deepest grief and holiest joy of the soul through African-American spirituals, song-sermons, gospel songs and holy blues.

celebrating 50 years of "Revelations"

Watch this short documentary by Emmy Award-winning producer and director Judy Kinberg celebrates the 50th anniversary of Alvin Ailey’s masterpiece, 'Revelations,' and illuminates the history and significance of this modern dance classic.

We also take this opportunity to honor male impersonator Stormé DeLarverie of The Jewel Box Revue - a female impersonation company that toured the black theater circuit. The Jewel Box Revue was the first racially integrated female impersonation show on the circuit and DeLarverie was their only “drag king”.

Stormé DeLarverie

Stormé DeLarverie was a performer and LGBTQ+ activist who was reported to have thrown the first punch at the Stonewall Uprising in NYC in 1969 while protecting members of the LGBTQ+ community. This #BlackHistoryMonth we honor her legacy by continuing to speak out against injustice.

a new & hopeful start

This weekend we celebrate triple occasions - a new year, a day of love, US accountability after four long years.

  1. Lunar New Year and the Year of the White Metal Ox - Feb 12 to 26 - Kung Hei Fat Choi 2021!
  2. Valentine's Day - Feb 14 - its history & fiction - love it? loathe it?
  3. US President's Day - Feb 15 - happy we can finally celebrate it with a decent human in office!
The year of the metal ox is a lucky year - ideal for focusing on relationships - in friendship or love. It brings career advancement, success in business, prosperity, and wellness for all zodiac signs.

This Valentine's Day we honor all the love that carved out a safe place for us here today. Past builds the present as present contributes to the state of our future.

We all crave a world where truth is told and upheld more than fakery or lies, pretentions and posturing. For all regular folks as well as our politicians and leaders.

Time for accountability from all our government leaders - Trump for each atrocity that led to so much ineptness and violence under his term, members of the house and senate who have impeached him twice, our justices and keepers of peace, and our current president to uphold what is best for all the American people, not just a chosen few.

the tragedy - a nation devalued & diminished by its leadership

The world is watching and we need to take a hard and honest look at what led us here. We need to stay vigilant and work on keeping individuals, communities, and the nation safe from any harm.

Show up, make our stand, let the world judge us by our actions not just impressive words. That's what matters most.
