our HERoes

What we admire is so overwhelmingly male, so much of the time. And as a result, what we are willing to set aside, what we deem inconvenient, the worse-makers of more important male matters, is overwhelmingly female. If we want our heroes to be better men, and if we want more of our heroes to be women, and if perhaps we want a world in which our stories are more honest than the framework of heroes and villains allows, well - we have to start by telling the whole truth. ~ Jill Filipovic

In another life back in the Philippines I used to head the operations and administrative field office for a security expert whose specialty was to bodyguard visiting VIPs, foreign dignitaries, and famous personalities. Among them, Michael Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal, Allen Iverson, and Kobe Bryant.

When Kobe came to the Philippines for his first promotional visit, he was so young he was still being chaperoned by his mother, the statuesque and elegant Pamela. The Lakers were still courting him for the NBA draft and he had yet to co-sign their contract.

navigate our stars with love

On our wonder | wander | women blog we welcomed a new product for the new year - We'Moon 2020. More than any appointment book - it is a lunar calendar, a handbook in natural rhythms, and a collaboration of international women's cultures - created and designed by we'moon to honor and celebrate wemyn.

The ideal tool to fortify us through these trying times. Be it agitated calderas all around the Ring of Fire. Or aggravated tantrums from impeached pretenders.

It is a valuable resource of useful information that can support us navigate throughout the year. For a child of the moon, awash in my Cancerian tides, it is already proving itself a godsend. Women of the world can truly unite under its sheltering banner.

Epiphany: a four fold feast

At the visitation of the Magi, the Christ child's divinity is revealed to all the other nations on Earth. Three kings or wise men journey to deliver their gifts to the holy child. Each bringing a symbolic treasure.

Detail from the Magi ChapelPalazzo Medici Riccardi, Florence

For Christ himself:
  • Gold represents Christ’s kingship
  • Frankincense, a sweet-smelling resin used in worship - his priesthood
  • Myrrh, an ointment used in burial - foreshadows his death
For humanity, the gifts meant:
  • Frankincense - time for God
  • Myrrh - time for Self
  • Gold -time for Family
